Readings at Willows Bistro

April 8th marks the return of evening sessions for the Second Thursday Readings at Willows Bistro, 3749 Main Street, Warrensburg. Writers from around the region read short and entertaining selections from their prose and poetry, both published and unpublished, in a program open to the public.

Opening this month’s 7 p.m. program will be L.R. Warner of Elizabethtown, author of From the Blackest Cloud, a book based on her personal experience of living in the North Country in mid-twentieth century and raising a child with cerebral palsy. She is expected to have copies of the book available that evening, and proceeds from sales benefit Upstate Cerebral Palsy. Also reading will be Kathleen O’Day of Warrensburg, whose works include stories of her teaching experiences in New York State reservation schools. Doug Deneen of Warrensburg, whose memoir pieces are both amusing and poignant (who can forget “My Celebrity Death Curse”?) will share new material. The program will end with superb whining, as Minerva resident Carol Gregson (AKA the “Pottersville Complainer”) airs complaints compiled over the winter. She promises she is not about to deplete her supply in the near future.

The paintings of Laura Neadle, April’s exhibiting artist of the month at Willows Bistro, will be on display. Neadle paints landscapes, still life, and some figures. She employs vivid hues in watercolors, some on paper and some on surfaces prepared with gesso. In addition to art and literature, food and beverages also will be available. Join the fun April 8th at 7 p.m.

Writers interested in appearing at future readings are advised to sign up well in advance, as the lineup is finalized nearly three weeks before the program. To submit a request, stop in at Willows, phone 518-504-4344 or email PersisGranger@aol.com.
