Matt Daly is an emerging artist born and raised in South Glens Falls, with a basement studio in his home. In 7th grade he confessed to his guidance counselor at South Glens Falls middle school that he wanted to be an artist and continued to take classes in art through high school. The desire to make art was put on hold to focus on his career and family. It blossomed again when he began to explore the roots of creativity in courses at SUNY Adirondack which included one in mythology taught by Paul Pines, and then a drawing course with John Hampshire in which his desire to paint was rekindled. He has re-connected profoundly to the boy who confessed he wanted to be an artist to his guidance counselor, and has been painting ever since. Matt is now seeking venues to sell and show his work.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
When I’m painting, it feels like I’m where I should be; in exactly the right place. I like to open to areas of ideas and emotions that rise from a depth that can only be accessed in this way. I am driven by what comes out. I don’t plan my work and I don’t focus on any particular subject, but have a sense that I am shaping something that is already there, waiting for me to find and reveal . I paint almost every day, and am starting to use mixed media more and more in my painting to experiment with texture and color. What I am after is an experience that is authentic, moving and takes me someplace I haven’t been before.
